Narcisso

Narcisso seems to have been the French answer to Colpo Grosso, replicating the original's format to some degree (while outdoing its predecessor in at least one important respect). 

Dropping all pretense of The Big Win's game show atmosphere, Narcisso had beautiful French girls stripping down to their bare knickers (or less) while singing the latest Parisan chanson d'amour. 

And what did these talented young hopefuls receive for their efforts? Money? Fame? La Palme D'or? Nope. Apparently, they walked away with a bouquet of wildflowers and a home-cooked pizza!

...according to this 2015 TV commercial, at least. Lingerie advertisements aren't known for their depictions of reality, but then again, fantasy has always reigned "Triumphant," so to speak.

Benny Hill: Jane Leeves

While British actress Jane Leeves is best-known for her run as Daphne Moon on NBC's Frasier, she actually started out as an extra on The Benny Hill Show, circa 1982 or thereabouts. In common with many of her Hill's Angels co-stars, she was required to show her knickers in between dance numbers:

Judging by these online adverts, Chinese retailer Easy makes shopping for lingerie so simple that pretty young women just walk in off the street and shed their inhibitions on the spot!

 

They've been toning the ads down somewhat over the past few years (evidently, they were considered quite risque by Chinese standards); fortunately, we managed to download a few of the earlier entries before they were deleted from YT (click the "start" arrow to begin, you may have to click twice).

Vamos Chile: Noelia Arias

Noelia Arias, better known by her stage name Licenciada Tetarelli, was one of Latin America's foremost vedettes back in the day. Making her debut on La Red's Vamos Chile in the early 2000s, she spent most of her appearances stripping down to her bra and panties before a live audience (a skill she picked up during her waitressing days, apparently). 

 

In common with many of her contemporaries, she was usually paired with a couple of gross, bumbling straight men who talked her out of her clothes the moment she stepped foot on stage. All the same, the segment turned out to be incredibly popular, allowing Ms Arias to go on to...well, more or less the same thing, just on different shows.

Not content with merely sawing women in half, Hungarian illusionist Máté Rakonczai has found a way to make their clothes disappear on live TV.

You can watch the performance on youtube (no age filter for this one), the girls disrobe around 08:23. We counted nine girls in black lingerie with matching thigh-highs (spoiler: the blonde's wearing red).

Clara Aguilar: Privezetes

Not sure of the specifics, but so far as we can tell, Clara's Q&A Challenge is a strip game with all of the usual benefits. As the contestants appear to be Clara's closest gal pals, it's easy to understand why her YT Account is subtitled the "BFF Lounge."

How Clara convinced her BFFs to strip down at their local pub is a mystery in itself, though given the popularity of her Youtube Channel, they probably didn't need much coaxing (especially after the first few pints). Worth noting, of course, that the girls wore their prettiest lingerie for the occasion, meaning they knew precisely what they getting in to.

Not sure of the exact details, but the girls seem to be playing a game of penalties. Every time they a mistake, their skirts are drawn up a little higher, after which they're subjected to further indignities. Evidently, contests of this nature were quite popular back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, all things must eventually pass, and "Tea Cloth Skirt" (aka "Teabagging") appears to have disappeared from the airwaves over the past two decades.

Semi-Tough

And now it's back to the swingin' seventies for a completely gratuitous panty-shot in Semi-Tough (United Artists, 1977). BTW: that's a young Brian Dennehy holding the struggling extra by the ankles.

 

We tend to wonder how they found an actress brave (and pretty) enough to film such a dangerous scene; she was most probably a stunt double, but all the same, it must've taken one heck of a lot of courage to reveal her knickers in public that day.

Universal Horrors: Abbott & Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

Bud and Lou bungle their way through yet another Universal Horror, this time as a pair of Brooklyn flatfoots sequestered to foggy London at the turn of the century. The movie includes two cancan scenes (kind of), the first during a suffragette rally in Hyde Park (get it?) and the second at the local watering hole. The musical number is performed by leading lady Helen Westcott and six anonymous show girls (with only the talented Ms. Westcott actually showing her knickers).

OK, you caught us out here: we added a pair of thigh highs via Photoshop, but you've gotta admit; it looks much better this way, doesn't it?

Let's talk about cultural dissonance...

Back in the 1960s, the Chirrol Chocolate company produced an animated commercial meant to appeal to children. It featured three bishojo characters singing "ふりふりフレーク、チロルチョコ～," which (liberally translated) means something like "shakey-shakey-shakey, Chirrol Chocolate-ah!" The cartoon ended with the girls raising their skirts to reveal their underwear. Most people found it cute and funny; apparently, kids used to sing it on the way to school. Kawaii desu, no big deal.

Fast forward thirty year or so, and the company decides to remake the ad in 1994. Social values have changed, agendas are being pushed, and suddenly, we have thousands of moral guardians mounting a letter-writing campaign to the government, demanding that the "obscene commercial" be banned until the end of time. Apparently, the local P & T association had leapt onto the PC bandwagon that the West had been pushing for the past few decades.

You'd think that the average Japanese politician would have more important things to deal with than a harmless TV commercial, but naturally, the Puritan Brigade got their way as they always do. The advertisement was censored, all copies of the print destroyed, and a valuable piece of popular culture was lost to history. Apparently, nobody and nothing is safe from these self-righteous killjoys, regardless of where they happen to live.

We've Just Passed Two Hundred Thousand!

Yes, that's right: as of 13 August, 2022, we've reached a grand total of 200,285 views - and the numbers continue to rise! Even more unbelievable: according to our stats, we scored more than 100,000 views within the last twelve months alone! 

What does all this mean? OK, let's try to put it into some kind of perspective. We established this blog waaaay back in May 2010, mainly as a database for lingerie scenes on film and TV. Following a couple of false starts, we bumbled along with a few hundred visits per month for the first eleven years (more or less the average for a niche blog like this), then suddenly our ratings shot through the ceiling.

What happened? None of us know for sure. The change came directly out of left field, catching all of us by surprise. We noticed a huge influx from Europe (particularly France) as well as a steady climb in Canada and the US, but we've yet to figure out how the digital landscape changed in such a short span of time. On the other hand, we have a few clues with might point us in the right direction.

First, there's Benny Hill. Benny has always been a perennial favorite on this site, with this post amassing 5047 views on its own. Seems that there's still a huge audience out there, thirty years after the great man's passing, and it's no secret that Benny's "silent comedies" appeal to a vast demographic on both sides of the Atlantic. Just goes to prove that some forms of humor transcend language and cultural barriers (especially when there are bras, knickers and beautiful young women involved). At present, we have no less than thirteen articles devoted to Benny's girls, and people simply can't get enough.

Another contributing factor might be diversity. Variety being the spice of life, we wanted to explore visual media of every conceivable form: film and TV, comics and cartoons, manga and anime; literally anything we could find in the uncharted corners of the Web (how did we ever survive without the internet?).

And now for the semi final. Broadcasting around 2018, Telefe Internacional provided the following synopsis for the segment (liberally translated from the regional Spanish):

For some totally inexplicable reason, the summary didn't mention that the girls were stripping down to their underwear before a studio audience, but I guess that a few things can just be taken for granted:

An Old Favorite

So, are you ready for another trip to The Judas Hole?  Yes, that's right, it's time to review our favorite moments from The Haunted Strangler (Amalgamated, 1958):

Loosely based around the Whitechapel murders of the 1880s (with a dash of Jekyll & Hyde thrown in), the movie contains two extended cancan sequences set in a Victorian music hall. Like Jimmy Sangster's Jack the Ripper (Tempean Films, 1959), the movie was shot in black & white and contains virtuoso performances by professional dancers. According to some sources, the cancan scenes were choreographed by Joan Murray, a former Windmill Theatre alumnus. 

Seriously, I still can't understand why nobody's come up with a color version of this masterpiece. Judging from these screencaps alone, the cancan number would be nothing short of spectacular!

Colpo Grosso: Maria

Maria shows us her lacy black lingerie in this short clip from Colpo Grosso. Maria La O was an obvious fan favorite from the very start, giving the impression that she honestly enjoyed herself (even when lip-syncing to a song she clearly didn't know the words to). She's known to have performed "Marina, Marina" at least twice on the show; we'll post the second clip when we manage to track it down.

Benny Hill: Acacia Avenue

Acacia Avenue is the closing tag from episode 24 of The Benny Hill Show (March 26, 1975). Waiting at the bus stop, several locals (Libby Roberts, Henry McGee, Moira Foot et al) and a priest (Don Estelle) are alarmed by the appearance of a "duffer" (Benny Hill) with a half-naked woman on his arm (turns out it's just a mannequin). Noticing the commotion, WPC Jeannie Collings turns up to investigate, ordering Benny to drape his coat over the figure. Meanwhile, a pretty young girl (Debbie Greenhill) strolls up, taking her place by the bus stop. Naturally, Benny mistakes her for the mannequin and rips her clothes off, exposing her underwear in public. Having incited the inevitable melee, Benny flees into a local park where he leaps astride an ostrich (?!) to ride to freedom.
